BELOVED TROPIC

Mercedes is an old aristocrat. A woman who used to live devoted to her career as a businesswoman, which she had to give up when her head began to fail. Now she takes refuge in her little routines – her walks, TV afternoons and a strange tropical garden that she takes care of with dedication – while she watches helplessly as Alzheimer’s progresses and takes away her independence.

Ana Maria is a Colombian immigrant in Panama, has the gift of patience and makes a living accompanying and assisting the elderly. She is three months pregnant and in love with a man who doesn’t seem to love her back. He leaves, tells her it is for a while and that he will return. But the wait is getting longer.

Jimena, Mercedes’ daughter, hires Ana Maria to take care of her mother for a trial period; Mercedes has a complicated character and that can be a difficult obstacle to overcome.
